Let's Talk: Back to School

I've been feeling nostalgic with all these back to school sales and commercials. Thinking back we'd get the JC Penny catalog and hit up Northridge mall to go back to school shopping!

My mom would pick out our clothes and I would reluctantly agree to it. Knowing very well I wouldn't wear it. I did however love my purple shoes that smelled like grape! Was everything scratch and sniff back then?!

Fast forward to when we were older... as we loaded on the bus mom would blast "Be True to Your School" by the Beach Boys or "Another Brick in the Wall" by Pink Floyd. She'd dance in the window for everyone on the bus to see! So embarrassing!

Here I am rocking a crab dress in Florida! Pink shoes and a pink blouse with a jean skirt and jacket. And what can I say about my cow bicycle shorts with the poof bangs!? Regrets.

As my kids went to grade school, my mom would throw back to school parties labor day weekend. This one year she made dad pose in the car. He had no idea why. She gathered all the grandkids photos too. She made this adorable bus cake with her as the driver and my dad in the back! She even made a cake when Melina was reading chapter books. I mean how cute are these?!

Now, I am not the baker like my mom was. Our back to school traditions were more photo based. First day photos, in the same spot, along with an interview sheet for their scrapbook. When they were little I made photo albums of all their artwork and then secretly tossed their artwork. Even now that their in high school, I keep these traditions going. What are ways you celebrate back to school? I'd love to hear your school memories or traditions, comment here or on Instagram/Facebook!

We are going to host a few back to school workshops as part of our new Let's Celebrate: Craft Club. Future workshops include a Harry Potter party, Halloween and Holiday party.

Our back to school party will feature several back to school crafts including a notebook, motivational or reminder sign and a pencil case with chenille letters! I'm also going to do a teacher giveaway! Stay tuned to Instagram for details tomorrow! Picking dates for these haven been tough with different activities and work schedules.

  • August 30 3:00-5:00 pm

  • September 15 5:30-7:30 pm

Let's Celebrate wishes everyone a great 2023/2024 school year!
